Dr. Verkeen Gorguy is a practicing psychiatrist, with over 20 years of inpatient, outpatient, and ECT experience. She practices adult outpatient psychiatry and specializes in women’s & maternal mental health. Dr. Gorguy received her OB/GYN certification, including a master’s degree from Ain Shams University in 1987, and practiced until her move to Canada in 1990. She completed her psychiatric residency in 1997, at the State University of New York, Stony Brook campus. She finished a one-year fellowship in 1998 in ECT and consultation liaison. She then moved to Halifax, NS, and worked as a staff psychiatrist at the Nova Scotia Hospital, and was also appointed to a faculty position at Dalhousie University. In 2002, Dr. Gorguy moved to Toronto, ON to take up a position as staff psychiatrist at Rouge Valley Health System, at the Centenary site, now Scarborough Health Network. Over the course of her career, Dr. Gorguy worked with medical students and psychiatry residents. She finally retired from hospital practice in 2020 but eventually came out of retirement as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalating mental health needs of the community. She is currently the medical director of Emerald Park Medical, supporting family doctors in the community as they care for the mental health care epidemic that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. She currently offers outpatient psychiatric consultant services, as well as Balint group to community family physicians.

Dr. Gorguy also currently offers CBT groups for patients struggling with anxiety and depression disorders.
